Tape Lifespan Is Not Guaranteed

§ 05 — Why digitise Betacam tapes?

Betacam Tapes Fade Over Time

Tape Lifespan Is Not Guaranteed

Even under ideal storage conditions, Betacam tapes typically last 20–30 years. Heat, humidity, and repeated playback accelerate deterioration. Visual quality may degrade before problems are obvious—making professional assessment essential.

§ 06 — Preserve

Still have Betacam tapes?

Betacam decks are no longer made and are hard to maintain. Played back on broadcast decks and digitised by specialists, the footage is saved before the tape degrades any further.
